Full Description:
A professionally made video lasting 23 minutes. It does not have very good sound or picture quality. It was built jointly for the Southend and South Essex Water Works. It starts in 1952 with the excavation work by machinery of its time and lots of manual labour. It was planned to have a capacity of 6,000,000,000 gallons of water. 500 lorries per day delivered 1.5 million tons of gravel. The laying of underground pipework and construction of the treatment plant and housing is shown. Details of the chemical treatment of the water is explained. Finally the opening in September 1957 is shown.
